What… in the world? Sports rings for Madden NFL??

Alright… This is the weirdest crap that I have heard in a LONG TIME. Apparently, for the new Madden NFL ‘08 game, you will be able to buy your own, real super bowl ring, based on the skill level you play on in the new Madden game. That’s the stupidest thing I have ever heard. This article over at Kotaku makes it clear that they are in disbelief, too.

EA Games and the sports ring manufacturer, Jostens, the same people who make real Super Bowl rings, are seriously getting together to offer the ELITE Madden ‘08 game base to buy ACTUAL rings that cost ACTUAL money, for their ELITE skills in a STUPID ASSED console football game! That is RIDICULOUS. This is why I like adventure game fans. Because they don’t do stupid crap like this! Sports game people scare me! A lot!

Here’s the best quote from the Kotaku article:

“We wanted our gamers to have something tangible to recognize their achievements within Madden NFL 08 and we kept coming back to Super Bowl rings,” said Madden NFL 08 Lead Producer David Ortiz. “We wanted to remain authentic to the real Super Bowl ring therefore we forged a great partnership with Jostens to allow our gamers to proudly display their Madden NFL 08 skills.”

WHAT THE HELL?! More like a way to forge a way to take money from stupid people! This is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time.

Am I taking this too critically or is this as crazy as it sounds?

Okay… It probably won’t really look like that at all, but it did take me awhile to create and it’s AWESOME.
