Alone In The Dark: Wii Trailer

The new adventure/thriller Alone In The Dark is going to be coming out for the Wii. The cool part about it is that the game uses the motion sensing controls to their fullest capabilities. Just check out this trailer for the Wii’s version Alone In The Dark to see what I mean:

I mean, you even have to open up your character’s jacket using the WiiMote! That’s so freaking cool! Let’s just hope that the WiiMote is sensative enough to know what you’re doing, but not so much that it ruins the feel of the game.

Adventure game looks strangely familiar

limbo_logo2.jpg

There is an adventure game that’s out on the market called Limbo of the Lost that takes your every day story and puts it into a point n’ click type environment that us adventure gamers know and love.

The problem with this game, though, is that apparently they’ve ripped off another game in the process! What game was ripped off, you ask? Well, only one of my favorite RPG games, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Yep, that’s right. The developer of Limbo of the Lost, Majestic Studios, has taken a bunch of backgrounds and textures from Oblivion and put them RIGHT INTO THEIR OWN GAME!

A guy by the name of Eric over at Game Plasma noticed that a whole bunch of backgrounds and scenes were obviously ripped right from Oblivion. Being the good journalist that he is, he brought this fact to his readers’ attention in this article. He even took screen captures to prove his point!

I bet you’re thinking, “No freaking way! Who would be dumb enough to take one of the biggest RPGs of the past few years, take out some images and then put them right into their own game and THEN think no one would notice?” Well, if you’re thinking that, I’m right there with you. I can’t even believe someone would even THINK of doing this!

It’s crazy!

New episodic game coming to GameTap

A guy named American McGee, who happens to be an American game designer living in Shanghai, is putting together a series of epsiodic games in which is going to be hosted by GameTap. The name of the series is going to be called American McGee’s Grimm and it has quite an interesting story behind it. The idea? The main character, Grimm, is out to change all of our loveable classic fairtales, such as Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella and put his bizarre twist on them.

Yes, that’s right, your mission in the game is to take Grimm on a walk through all sorts of fairytales to make them dirty and vile! That’s the type of thing I live for!

American McGee’s Grimm is an action adventure game, which will have 24 episodes that you will trek through. Sounds interesting, right? I know you want to hear about the features!

  • Transform classic fairy tales into darkly twisted versions of the stories.
  • The first weekly game series - new episodes released weekly.
  • Experience all-new slants on beloved fairy tales from the mind of American McGee
  • Distinctive art style with unique “light” and “dark” versions of every game asset.
  • Highly accessible gameplay style with each episode designed to be completed within 30 minutes.

The first episode will be available on July 31st, 2008.

Play Infocom text games on the internet!

infocom_logo.png

I’m sure many of you, like myself, grew up playing those old text-based adventure games where you had to use nothing more than your imagination and stick figures to figure out what the HELL was going on in the game. I mean, for a long time, there wasn’t any images or animations to go with a game! Just words that were then turned into descriptions! And often time the descriptions were ignored and you fell into a pit of lava with deadly snakes in it! I bet you know what I’m talking about.

And I bet you’re thinking, “Man, those were the days. Why don’t we just do away with games and go back to those simpler times?”

Because, most people hate to read. But you don’t! So, that’s why I’m going to point you to a website based on old Infocom text-based games. Why Infocom? OH, only because they were THE MASTERS of text-based games back in their day. THE FREAKING MASTERS.

I mean, just look at the list of games they put out:

  • Zork I: The Great Underground Empire
  • Zork II: The Wizard of Frobozz
  • Zork III: The Dungeon Master
  • Zork: The Undiscovered Underground
  • Enchanter
  • Seastalker
  • Sorcerer
  • Spellbreaker
  • Wishbringer
  • Starcross
  • Suspended
  • Planetfall
  • The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
  • Stationfall
  • Deadline
  • The Witness
  • Leather Goddesses of Phobos
  • The Lurking Horror

Oh, so I have your interest do I? Well, check this site out and you will see all the coolness in which I speak.

[Special thanks go out to Lively Ivy for pointing out this awesome little gems of the internet!]

Support a developer!

One of our favorite developers, DoubleFine, now has their very own comic book out. The new book is based on DoubleFine art director’s, Scott Campbell, and the comics that he has put together. It will probably be funny and make you laugh. Or maybe they’ll just make a fool out of you. I’m willing to bet it might be both.

I mean, just check out the cover!

dfac1cover.jpg

And if that’s not enough for you, just look at the exciting features of the book:

  • Occasional color (as if gray-scale wasn’t exciting enough)!
  • Knight Guy board game (pieces not included)!
  • Sketches and in-progress work (only half-done on purpose)!
  • Special commentary section (where Scott C writes what he’s thinking)!
  • Secrets of “How to Draw!” (Warning: Not a state-certified class)!
  • Sexy Knight Guy pin-up (aww, yeah!)

Who doesn’t want the Knight Guy board game, sans pieces? I know I couldn’t pass that up if I wanted to!

Do your part and order a copy of Double Fine Action Comics by Scott C (Vol. 1) from the Totally Nerd Core website for a measley $20.00.

LucasArts:Brain Damage

lucasartslogo3dcolor_psd_jpgcopy.jpg

Is it me, or is LucasArts just a lazy bunch? In a recent interview that Eurogamer did with the PR Manager of LucasArts, Chris Norris, and assistant producer, Jeffrey Gullett, LucasArts was asked if any new adventure games would be headed our way. Chris Norris said they’re looking into it. Then Eurogamer asked why they don’t just re-release old games to new platforms? Lots of people have done it. Take Myst for example. They’ve re-released Myst on about 100 different consoles.

Jeffrey Gullett’s response to putting old LucasArts games on the DS? The DS carts are far too small memory wise to put an adventure game on it. REALLY?! Because some of those really old LucasArts games like Monkey Island 1 and Maniac Mansion are TINY in comparison to the games that are on the DS today.

These LucasArts characters need to come over into the real world, dangit! We want classic adventures on the DS! Dangit!

To read more about the silliness that is LucasArts, check out the Eurogamer interview here.

Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People - Delayed a month!

strong_bad_character_art_2.jpg

For those of you that are eagerly awaiting the arrival of TellTale Games new game Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, there is some bad news. The good people over at Kotaku got to have a totally awesome lunch date with The Brother’s Chap - the two geniuses behind the mind of Strong Bad - and got to find out a few things about the episodic series.

Specifically, they learned that the game has been pushed back to come out in July instead of the originally anticipated June, which just so happens to be this month.

Dangit. I was totally wanting to check that stuff out ASAP on WiiWare, but it looks like I just may have to wait another month. That means it’ll be better, right? We can only hope!

LucasArts May Revive Adventure Games?

lucasartslogo3dcolor_psd_jpgcopy.jpg

Now this is an interesting internet article. CustomPC UK wrote an article in which they raise adventure gamer hopes and declare that LucasArts may think about re-opening their adventure game development department. Why? Because the adventure game genre isn’t really dead like LucasArts thought it was 5 years ago when they shut down that department.

CustomPC quoted a Eurogamer article with Chris Norris, the PR manager for LucasArts, that said “I would love to see new adventure games coming out. A lot of people will say they feel like the adventure game genre is dead. I don’t think it is.” Oh, it definitely isn’t! I mean, adventure games are casual games and I read an article recently that casual games are the games that are IN right now. So, that means adventure games should be quite popular. Right? RIGHT?!

I think LucasArts definitely would not go wrong if they opened the adventure game development department again! The world would be made whole once again! MUAHAHAH!

You know you’re interested in this article. Read it here.
