Nanobots - A Beta Test
What do you get when you take robots, tiny things and bugs? Well, you get to beta test the new game from Erin “The Ivy” Robinson’s mind, Nanobots. Yep, that’s right. I was lucky enough to be asked to be a beta tester to find those icky bugs that make a game either unplayable or just hard to stomach. But this time, even though there were a few bugs in the game… my overall thoughts on the game were pretty freaking awesome.
The game… well, it starts out with a hippy and the hippy’s college professor who has a thing against hippy’s and robots that can have emotion. Why? Because he’s a bitter old man that takes hours to get coffee. I mean, he’s really slow. I got stuck on a puzzle for like an hour while this guy was supposed to be getting coffee then coming back to smash my nanobots and seriously… he let me finish the entire puzzle without coming in to bother me with his overbearing smashing abilities. It only takes me like 5 minutes tops to fill up my coffee cup. Maybe he was doing something… we shouldn’t be talking about here. Because this is a family oriented website. But since he, too, is a creator of robots… robots he hopes he can get to love… well, we know exactly what he was doing… don’t we?? Winkwink.
The entire plot behind the game is to get these six different little nanobots off of Groovy Greg’s desk so that they may save themselves from the evil smashiness of Professor Killfun. The best part of the game is that you get to play all six robots and you must use all of their different special powers to figure a way off the desk. The robots… well, they don’t necessarily like each other and are kind of like a big bunch of brothers and sisters, except for one of the nanobots, Hotbot, has the hots for the only girl nanobot, Chembot. And since this isn’t the Southern United States, it would be kind of gross if Hotbot was in love with Chembot.
Erin, I think, did a great job with coming up with an awesome storyline, which was a lot of fun to play since you had to figure out which nanobots did what. And with the programming help of Vince Twelve of xii games and musical genius of Chris “Scorposer” Moorson, we’ve got an awesome freeware adventure game that will be available to the masses as soon as all the bugs are found and fixerated.
And I’m going to happy to play it again with the masses, because I haven’t even seen the ending cutscene yet! Us beta testers got the shaft and were only shown a screen that said “You beat the game. Now get the hell out you damn beta testers.” Okay, it didn’t really say that. Vince and Erin are too nice to do something like that, though it would’ve been hilarious. Hmmm… maybe that’s what I should do if I ever create a game of my very own.
For more information on Nanobots, check out Erin’s website over at Lively Ivy. Not only does she have blog posts to update people of the status of her games, she also has a pretty dang entertaining comic section, which she creates with her bare hands! Impressive!
