Jack Keane… A New Deck 13 Game.

by Amber on June 3rd, 2006

Deck 13, the same people who made the award winning game, Ankh, are bringing us a brand spanking new, very colorful and super awesome game called Jack Keane. Deck 13 announced the new game at the recent E3 conference.

Jack Keane takes place in Cape Town during the 19th century. Mr. Keane is supposedly a ruggedly handsome, very colonial type o’ guy, with a few insecurity problems, with a touch of clumsiness. Oh, and he’s also a ship captain. Hmmm, do I dare ask where they got an idea like that? Monkey Island perhaps?! Except, I wouldn’t classify Guybrush as “ruggedly handsome”, but whatever. He’s still a clutz!

But then again, I do like pirates, so let’s continue.

Jack is asked to retrieve a secret agent (wha…?) from Cape Town and seeing as Jack owes some money to Guido or some other creepy thug, he takes the job, because he’s low on the dough (hey, it almost rhymes).

So, Jack begins his adventure, meets a sassy dame named Amanda along the way, whom apparently you get to play along the way. That sounds a lot like Ankh, but I always DID like getting to play two or more characters along the way.

When Jack arrives at Cape Town, his wittle boat crashes upon the rocks, the “Secret Agent” disappears and Jack is left without a clue as to what to do. So, he basically wants to take his money and leave, but as he explores Cape Town, he finds out there’s this weird guy doing experiments on the people and what’s more… Jack is somehow related to this guy.

It sounds very mysterious.

So, being the great adventure game that it is, Jack gets to figure out what’s going on with the island and I’m guessing by the end, he’s a SUPER HERO. With flying powers and everything.

Or not.

Or maybe.

I don’t know.

I still haven’t even been able to play Ankh, because I’m American and they don’t sell it to us Americans yet. I’m sad. (random? I know)

Now, the action in Jack Keane looks really cool. At the E3 conference, the demo showed Jack climbing up trees and running around on branches, while narrowly avoiding giant, fat cheeked babies, snakes and electric fences.

Alright, there’s no babies, but I thought that would be cool. Maybe they should add that in.

I’m really excited about this game and hope that it comes out soon. What’s more is that I hope it comes to the US when it is released in Europe. I’m sure it won’t, but I guess I can be patient. *sigh!*

Estimate release date is some time in 2007. Keep checking back here for more info on the game as it comes out!
