Great Article…
Gamasutra published a great article recently about RPGs and Gamasutra’s Quantive Leap Award. Gamasutra went out and asked the following mind blowing question:
“Which role playing game over the entire history of the genre do you think has made the biggest ‘quantum leap’, and why?”
Now, this was a great article, because I think they touched based upon just about every RPG that I have loved, including the Chronotrigger, Final Fantasy and Ultima Series.
We all know that I’m a gigantic Ultima fan, and started playing with the very first one. It looked a little like this:

Mmmm… pixels.
Doesn’t that make you a little bit ill? But as graphics got better, the game got better with the best game in my opinion being Ultima 7 and Ultima 7.5. I also loved Ultima Underworld, where you got to be a first person avatar, kinda like Doom. Except Ultima Underworld was way cooler and had an actual story line.
Gamasutra also talks about Final Fantasy IV, which was a great and wonderful game, but I think the true hero of the Final Fanstasy series would be Final Fantasy III. I freakin’ LOVED that game and have played it over and over and over. I even watched my brothers play it over and over and over. That’s how much that game was a part of our childhoods.
There are of course other great games on there, such as Neverwinter’s Night and of course Oblivion, which I still can’t play because you have to have MEGA SUPER COMPUTER to play that game. One day. ONE DAY.
So, my friends… take a look at the article and look back at all the great games that changed the face of RPG today.
