Game Review: Indigo Prophesy

I rented a game last week and kept putting off playing it, because I wasn’t too sure what the game was about. Usually when I get into a game, I can’t stop until it is finished, so if I’m going to invest my time into this game, it had better be good. Damnit!
The name of the game was Indigo Prophesy and boy am I glad that I found it. It provided about 10 straight hours of playing time (which is a little short for the $7.99 I spent at Blockbuster… bastards. Since when was it $7.99 to rent games?).
You start off the game with this weird scene of this guy killing another guy in a men’s bathroom. The scene goes back and forth between the murderer guy and a weird monk looking guy that’s possessing him. The murderer guy basically has no control of his body… he’s dragging himself along in a zombie like style. Then he stabs this nerdy looking guy (he’s a nerd… be probably deserved it!) and breaks out of his trance. CRAP! You’re now the murderer and you have to hide the evidence! Basically you have these options, just like an adventure game, and you go around moving stuff around, hiding dead bodies and mopping up blood.
THEN… after you beat a hasty retreat in a taxi down the street, you become the two detectives investigating the murder. The lead detective is this chick who walks around half naked in several of the scenes. And the other detective is a black guy who grew up in the Bronx. So, you get to choose between these 3 characters through out most of the game. It’s actually pretty cool.
The funny part is that whenever you pick the black dude, this funky 70s music comes on. It makes me think that if I were black, I’d hear some disco music in my head where ever I went. Music was never on for the other two characters. What the heck is up with that? The guy is like in his 20s and I’d guess that the game’s setting is about 2010. He shouldn’t have funky 70s music come on. But it was still entertaining.
Speaking of music… the music throughout the game was pretty damn cool. It really set the mood of the game and made me want to kick some butt. Also, the graphics were pretty cool (even though I’m not a big graphics person. If the game is fun, the characters can be stick figures for all I care).
As you go throughout the game, you find there was somebody possessing the murderer guy. These possession guys are trying to take over the world and they have to find some kid called the “Indigo Child” and blah blah blah. You go through these cool actions sequences that remind me a lot of The Matrix. Throughout the sequences, you have your two joysticks on your controller come up and basically you play a game of Simon. The joystick on the screen says push left and you push left on your joystick. It says up, you push up. I’m sure you get the picture. Anyways, if you screw up on these sequences, you get smacked around, or the cops figure out your lying or you can’t pull your pants up… okay, that’s not really something that happens, but it’d be awesome.
Anyways, if you like mystery adventure games with weird twists and stuff like that… check this game out. It’s totally worth the $7.99 Blockbuster fee. Bastards.
By the way, if you live in Europe or pretty much anywhere other than the US, the name of the game is called Fahrenheit. Why do they change the name of the games? Are us Americans too cool for the game names they come up with? It’s an outrage I tell you!
