Gabriel Knight Gooooodness

So, my dear friend Gnome, over at A Random Gnome’s Random Lair, has posted about a old time classic, Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within.
You remember Gabriel Knight 2, don’t ya? It was that weird Gabriel Knight that they tried to make like a real movie, with real actors doing real things. Mmm, interactive movies… suck.
I hate games like that, but as an adventure gamer, I played it anyways, many moons ago. I think I got a bonus pack that had GK 1 and 2. Now, I loved GK1… it had a great story line, very mysterious and pieces of humor. I just thought it was an awesome game. And then I went to play GK2… and… Um. Well, I just thought it was weird. I want my movies on my tv screen and I want games on my computer. It’s just weird when you go to reach for something with Gabriel and it doesn’t work right… the game got all jumpy and stuff.
HOWEVER. The story was really good. I just didn’t like the graphics. In fact, I think someone should recreate the game in a non-real-life format. Anyone out there want to do that? Come on! You’re remaking all these King’s Quest games and I know Leisure Suit Larry was redone! SOMEONE MAKE IT NOT WEIRD!
Oh, I’m rambling again.
What’s new, right?
Anyways, check out the Gnome’s article. He’s even included a blooper video of the recording process of GK2 he found on YouTube. Now that’s entertainment.

Thanks for the link, oh mighty Adventuress.
And having someone remake GK2 as a “normal” game (especially with 2d graphics) would be a rather noble thing to do. A fine idea.

Wow!! This is a great site here. Me likey a lot.
I never heard of the Gabriel Knight series but I’ve heard (Even seen) games of it’s genre in magazines (Mainly EGM from I remember.) I have to give this genre a try one day.

GamerC… You definitely have to! You get everything from comedy to mystery in this genre. It’s very awesome. :)

Amber, look out GamerC is quite homicidal. At times at least… Nah… he’s great!

Surprised you never heard of GK, GamerC. It’s adventure gaming at its best.
I’m also surprised Amber didn’t like GK2. :) You know Amber, a lot of adventure games were made using FMVs during the 1990s, and GK2 was the best of them. The others ended up like movies (i.e. Phantasmagoria) instead of “games” because they lacked interaction.
By the way, where did you get your copy? I live in the Philippines, and GK isn’t exactly a common sight here. I’ve been trying to get Gabriel Knight Mysteries for the longest time, but the only option I have right now is Amazon. :(

Mike,
I don’t even know where I got it… I played it a long time ago when I was a teenager… maybe if I played it now, it’d be better. I think I still have it laying around some where… I’ll definitely have to find it and play it again to see if my memory is right or not!
