Dust off your French language book - Les Miserables the Adventure Game!

by Amber on January 8th, 2008

Now here’s a tad bit of exciting news. If you’re a fan of classic novels AND you love playing adventure games, then get ready to sit back and join 19th century Paris, France in the new point ‘n click game Les Miserables. I personally have never read the book… I tried not to read any more classic books than I HAD to in high school (there were just sooooo many), but I have seen the musical, which I’m sure is nothing like the book. The musical was awesome though and if the game is half as awesome, then it’ll definitely be a game worth playing!

Lots of water colors!

In the game, you get to take on the roles of Victor Hugo’s wonderful characters who basically live miserable lives during the Napoleonic wars. I mean, there is starvation and death and illness. You just can’t get any better than that! The layout of the story by itself is an episodic adventure game creator’s dream. The story was release into seventeen different parts, all of which were later combined into one book, but the feeling of different “episodes” is there, which makes this game ever so easy to adapt into an adventure game.

The game is being created by a very adventurous guy named Chris Tolworthy using the SLUDGE engine, which just so happens to be an adventure game engine. Chris became sick and tired of not seeing a game he’d buy at the store, so he decided “what the heck!” and went off to make his very first adventure game. And what a project he undertook!

And hopefully this won’t be the only game Chris will be making. He’s planning on releasing more games based off of classic novels, such as Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace. He is one fancy lad!

Beta testing for Les Miserables will begin in February of 2008.
