Another reason to attend the Game Developers Convention

According to The International House of Mojo, there is one more reason to attend the Game Developers Convention which takes place in San Francisco, California on March 5th through the 9th. What is that reason, hmmm? Well, that reason would be music. Lots and lots of old style LucasArt games are having their music redone in an acoustic style. Ohhh yes… I like old LucasArt games, as you know and now I will be able to rock in roll with the sounds from Monkey Island, Outlaws and Grim Fandango. Ahhh, how I would love to hear all that goodness. But alas, I won’t be in San Francisco anytime soon. That’s too bad really.
There’s an article on Cubed 3 that gives a list of the other performances that will take place during the convention. Here’s the list:
- Nintendo’s Koji Kondo, of Zelda, Mario and Star Fox fame, will make a special appearance, and will perform one of his favorite melodies. Tommy Tallarico, producer, said “There is clearly no game music more recognizable around the world than the themes that Mr. Kondo has created over the years.”
- Martin Leung, the incredibly talented Video Game Pianist, will debut a new arrangement that he’s been working on. Leung is known for his piano takes on various gaming classics.
- A rare special acoustic performance by the original LucasArts composers performing a medley of classics including Monkey Island, Outlaws and Grim Fandango
- Guitarist (and video game artist) Chris Kline aka “vertexguy” debuting his live synchronized Contra “Jungle Theme” rock-n-roll presentation.
If you really want to attend the convention, the concert is on March 9th and the tickets are going for $38.50 to $65. The tickets can be purchased directly from Live Nation. Rock on, brothahs and sistahs.
