The Adventuress

An interesting trio…

by Amber on September 14th, 2006

I was wandering aimlessly about the depths of Gamasutra the other day and found out one of my favorite Fantasy book authors and a famous American baseball player have something in common.

Now… my favorite author is a guy named R.A. Salvatore. He writes about dark elves and gnomes and dwarves… you know, crap like that. If you log onto any MMORPG, you will always find a guy with the name Drizzt or something like that, which is Salvatore’s most FAMOUS character, EVAR. Personally I like Wulfgar and Cattabrie, but WHATEVER.

He also has a few games based off of his lovely work of art. Some of you loyal RPG players may have played such games as Icewind Dale. He was also the writer of the PS2, XBox and PC game Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone (I know there’s another older pc game he did with Drizzt as the main character, but I can’t remember. I’m OLD).

So, I was quite surprised when I learned that R.A. Salvatore has joined teams with Professional Baseball pitcher, Curt Schilling, to form the company Green Monster Games. After some googling to see why the hell Curt Schilling was joining Salvatore to make a gaming production company, I find out that Mr. Schilling, who is an awesome pitcher, is ALSO an avid MMORPG fan. He likes to play EverQuest II and apparently plays 4 or 5 characters at the same time. This is what millionaire baseball players can do with all that money… buy a bunch of damn monitors. How cool would that be?

Nice elf, baby.

He apparently also writes gaming reviews for multiple gaming websites and crap… weird.

I wonder while he’s standing out the on that pitching mound if he’s thinking about all the stuff he has to do in EV2 and if all of his friends are gaining levels without him. Maybe that’s why he’s such a good pitcher.

There’s another guy on the team, too. He goes by the name Todd McFarlane and he will apparently be the lead artist with the company. This guy was the creator of Spawn…

I’m thinking these 3 guys will make an awesome team for Green Monster Games.

You can read the article here. It’s awesome, man.

Yeah… it’s a weird group of people who got together, but it sounds fun. :)

[…] As I read Ron’s entry from yesterday, he talks about the fact that Curt Schilling, a professional baseball player, is going to be creating a new gaming company called Green Monster Games. If you remember or have been reading for awhile, I posted on the exact same topic many moons ago. Now, Ron has a beef over the fact that Curt Schilling, who hasn’t done anything more than played video games, is going to be starting a gaming company. He’s kind of ticked that Schilling thinks that he can just throw money into this company and start developing games, even though he has no idea how difficult, time consuming or brain draining creating your own games can be.
