Adventure MMO on the Horizon
Good news coming to us by way of Adventure Gamers. It looks like we’ll be seeing a new MMO coming out onto the market, but the funny thing is that it isn’t a RPG, like you might believe. According to this Adventure Gamer article, the new MMO will take on the qualities of an adventure game. The game will be brought to us by the people of Next Gen Books and shall be known as The Broken Kingdoms - The Half Broken Crown, which will feature many things that you may see in a classic point and click adventure game.
Here’s the story from the game’s website:
The Broken Kingdoms is a brand new Online Adventure Game that brings people from all over the world together to solve puzzles and complete quests. Based upon bestselling author Darren Reid’s epic fantasy tale The Half Broken Crown it offers you a complete world to explore starting in the village of Ardara. These are dark times and the glory days of the Old Empire are long gone. Everywhere in the world there are great ruined cities to explore, abandoned fortresses and forgotten magic. Join together with your friends or make new companions in the game and strike out to solve the mysteries of this crumbling world.
The site also says that it is different in the MMO world, as the game has been tested and played on several different systems, including PC, Mac, Wii, Nintendo DS, Playstation 3, and the PSP, so it looks like you’ll be able to play the game where ever you go. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an MMO that has done that and would love to see what it looks like on one of these other gaming systems, other than a PC. Maybe I’ll have to check it out on the Wii… hmmm… Oh, and the basic game is free, which is always good for a cheap woman like me. If you want to buy anything from the game, it looks like it’ll come in the form of new adventures, which will cost between $2 and $5. Not bad for an online game if’n you asked me.
Let us just hope that they put a little more effort into the website for the game, because right now, I don’t think the game would draw in very many people… or maybe it will, because us adventure gaming fans aren’t as picky as other genre fans.
The game is going to be hitting open beta on June 17th, so if you’re interested go on and head on over to this page on the 17th to get started. The game’s full launch is scheduled for June 24th.
