Adventure game looks strangely familiar
There is an adventure game that’s out on the market called Limbo of the Lost that takes your every day story and puts it into a point n’ click type environment that us adventure gamers know and love.
The problem with this game, though, is that apparently they’ve ripped off another game in the process! What game was ripped off, you ask? Well, only one of my favorite RPG games, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Yep, that’s right. The developer of Limbo of the Lost, Majestic Studios, has taken a bunch of backgrounds and textures from Oblivion and put them RIGHT INTO THEIR OWN GAME!
A guy by the name of Eric over at Game Plasma noticed that a whole bunch of backgrounds and scenes were obviously ripped right from Oblivion. Being the good journalist that he is, he brought this fact to his readers’ attention in this article. He even took screen captures to prove his point!
I bet you’re thinking, “No freaking way! Who would be dumb enough to take one of the biggest RPGs of the past few years, take out some images and then put them right into their own game and THEN think no one would notice?” Well, if you’re thinking that, I’m right there with you. I can’t even believe someone would even THINK of doing this!
It’s crazy!

It gets better. It turns out Oblivion was just the tip of the iceberg. Gamers on the NeoGAF forums picked up on the story, and just from PR screenshots and trailer identified graphics pasted in from (deep breath) Morrowind, Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal Tournament 2003, Diablo II, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Thief: The Dark Project, Thief: Deadly Shadows, Crysis, Silent Hill 4, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Painkiller, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth, and World of Warcraft. It reportedly also lifts FMV from the Spawn movie and the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and others claimed to notice dialogue lifted from a game called Rune and music lifted from Hexen. At this point the question is what in the game ISN’T a copyright violation. (The engine is called Wintermute and apparently was actually used legally.)

Actually, they ripped off a whole bouquet of gaming titles, as well as at least one movie (The Thing). They used screenshots and images from Thief 3, Painkiller, Oblivion, Diablo 2 to name the most obvious.

Well, great. Now these idiots are sure the give adventure gaming a bad name. What’s the point of creating your own game if you’re just going to rip a ton of people off?
Damnit.
